The city:
Things to do with your mum

Treat your mum to some quality bonding time with her favourite child (aka, you) with a day in The City. Whether her weak spot is shopping, dining, pampering or exploring, there’s something to make her feel like a queen.

Shop with mum in The City

Look no further than Queen Street Mall for a shopping date with your mum. With more than 500 stores, you can shop until you drop – or until your arms are too full to carry anything else, whichever comes first. From luxury stores to fashion boutiques, the choices are endless. Spoil her with something special from Chanel, Dior and Balenciaga then browse new season styles at big-name fashion boutiques including Zara, H&M, Seed and Country Road. There are hundreds more boutiques, department stores and specialty retailers nearby so check out ourcomprehensive guide to shopping at Queen Street Mall to plan your spree.

High tea fit for your queen

Treat your mum like the queen she is with an elegant high tea. She’s sure to find a fluffy scone or cucumber sandwich to her liking at tea houses and cafés including Keri Craig Emporium, The Treasury Hotel, Customs House and Room With Roses. Looking for something a little different? Check out these places that serve both traditional and modern high teas. Get dressed up for a day out and enjoy a petit four with a glass of bubbles.

Places primed for pampering

We don’t believe that mums should only be pampered on special occasions. Why not treat her to a ‘me day’ to show your appreciation? There are so many great beauty salons throughout The City ready to primp and polish you both. Start with a fresh cut, blow dry or style at Elysium Hair, Oscar Oscar, Rixon Hair or Toni & Guy before moving on to a facial, manicure and pedicure at Stephanie’s Spa Retreat in Sofitel Brisbane. Finish with a relaxing massage at the W Brisbane’s AWAY Spa, The Westin's Heavenly Spa or Aquarius Health & Medispa for the ultimate relaxing experience.

Spoil mum with a long lunch

Mum deserves only the best so take her to one of The City’s fine-dining venues. Book a plush pink booth at Donna Chang or treat mum to decedant fine dining at Rothwell's or Pneuma Restaurant. Walter’s Steakhouse brings timeless charm to downtown Brisbane while Bar Pacino serves up delicious eats and the best river views.

Plan a movie date

Nothing says wholesome quality mum-and-me time more than a chick flick movie date. Event Cinemas in Uptown is your go-to for blockbusters and new releases or splash out and travel back in time at the beautifully restored Elizabeth Picture Theatre. P.S. It’s only fair that you shout the popcorn. And probably the tickets, too.

Indulge your sweet tooth

Indulging in a sweet treat or two is non-negotiable when planning any mother and child outing. Start the day with a hot chocolate and treat from Noosa Chocolate Factory. Dessert before dinner is encouraged in The City, so head to Dello Mano or Nodo to get your fix. Don’t forget, Pancake Manor is open 24 hours for mothers who have a constant sweet tooth craving – no judgement here!

Take a walk along the river

Sometimes all mum wants is a little fresh air and quality time with their favourite child (you, of course). The Brisbane Riverwalk is one of The City’s most scenic walking paths taking you along the river from New Farm into the heart of The City.

Drinks, views and a sunset

The City is filled with bars boasting incredible views. Combine a cocktail with a bird’s eye view of The City at W Brisbane’s WET Deck and Pullman’s Sixteen Antlers or hover a storey or two up at Hibiscus Room or Jimmy’s On The Mall. If heights aren’t mum’s thing, there are plenty of riverside options for a sunset evening including Friday’s Riverside, Will & Flow, Blackbird and Riverland. We can promise a fantastic view at all locations and a smile on mum’s face, so book in your next date at one of Brisbane’s best bars.
