Guided Tours at Roma Street Parkland: Brisbane Open House

19 - 20 JULY 2025

The Hub

As part of Brisbane Open House, Roma Street Parkland is offering a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and discover the sustainable systems that support this iconic inner-city green space.

The experience begins with a guided walk through the Spectacle Garden at Colin Campbell Place, where volunteers will share insights into seasonal planting and the design principles behind the park's horticultural displays. The tour then extends into areas not usually open to the public, including the operations compound, nursery zone and the in-house composting site.

Visitors will learn how Roma Street Parkland processes 100% of its green waste on site. Soft green waste is turned regularly to encourage microbial activity, while hard waste is sent offsite for grinding and returned as first-grind mulch. This behind-the-scenes look highlights the practical environmental care and planning that keeps the Parkland flourishing.

The meeting point is The Hub. Tours are free, but bookings are essential. Please bring a hat, enclosed shoes, sunscreen, and water. Note that accessibility is limited due to terrain and facilities.
