The Love of Bribie: an exhibition by Uncle Ron Powell

13 FEBRUARY - 9 MARCH 2026

Obsidian Bide Art Gallery and Studio

The Love of Bribie is a solo exhibition by long-time Bribie Island resident Ron Powell, in dialogue with artist and curator Felicia Lloyd, at Obsidian Bide Art Gallery and Studio, Bribie Island.

Drawing on decades of lived experience and research, Powell's paintings reflect the landscapes and waterways of the Pumicestone Passage and the wider Moreton Bay region. The exhibition explores the history of the oyster industry — once central to local culture and economy — and its lasting impact on land, water, and community.

Presented alongside the exhibition is an open studio by artist and curator Felicia Lloyd, supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). During February and March 2026, visitors are invited to engage with the artist in the gallery, share stories, and contribute local knowledge as part of an open, evolving creative process.

Free entry. All welcome.

Opening events and artist talks are scheduled during the exhibition period.

The exhibition features a solo exhibition by Bribie Island resident Ron Powell, paintings inspired by local oyster industry history, live artist research and public engagement, opportunities to share stories and local knowledge, and free entry at a regional contemporary art space.
