Intertidal – an art exhibition by Cheryl Mortimer

17 APRIL - 11 MAY 2026

Obsidian Bide Art Gallery and Studio

Intertidal: A Powerful Exploration of Coastal Ecosystems at Obsidian Bide Bribie Island, Queensland is a solo exhibition by local artist Cheryl Mortimer.

Inspired by the mangrove ecosystems of the Pumicestone Passage and surrounding waterways, Intertidal brings together a body of mixed media works that capture the shifting beauty and ecological importance of these often-overlooked environments.

Mortimer's practice draws on decades of experience as both an artist and educator, combining technical experimentation with a deeply personal connection to place. Her works evoke the interplay of light and shadow across water, the intricate structures of mangrove roots, and the quiet complexity of life sustained within these environments.

Presenting a compelling body of mixed media work inspired by the mangrove ecosystems of the Pumicestone Passage and surrounding waterways - drawn from personal memory and decades of observation, Mortimer captures the shifting interplay of light, water, and organic form found within these unique coastal environments. Her experimental approach - embracing monoprinting, resist techniques, and layered materials - reflects the fluid, transitional nature of the intertidal zone itself.

Public programs includes an artist talk, demonstrations, and workshops.
