Harmony Amidst Destruction

28 MARCH 2026

Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct

'Harmony Amidst Destruction' is a tribute to the big blast that shook the Port of Beirut on 4 August 2020, which signalled the demise of hope for many Lebanese.

In this trailblazing collusion of storytelling and breakdance, two Middle Eastern dancers – Roj and Ralph Kabalan – explore hardship and hope. Through music and movement, they speak of witnessing war and peril, of having to leave their families in crisis to try to find a better future in Australia and of how, through it all, art never left their side, creating and pushing themselves to improve even in the worst of times.

The show will feature a live performance by multi-instrumentalist Greta Kelly on shah kaman (Persian spike-fiddle), violin and theremin with live looping. For this occasion, she has crafted a special hip-hop set that unapologetically dives into the harsh realities of oppression, resistance, and survival.

Warning: This performance includes real news footage related to an explosion and loud noises, mild strong language, and a brief depiction of smoking for artistic purposes. Viewer discretion is advised.
