Butterbox Beats: Rusty Pickups

15 AUGUST 2024

Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct

South East Queensland’s Rusty Pickups came out swinging in 2019, just in time to get shut down with the rest of the world. After turning a few circles for 18 months they solidified the line-up, toured extensively throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales, and released a run of singles from the “Rattle In My Heart” EP – garnering support from radio stations all over the country.

Their down home, classic country-folk sound was a crowd favourite when they played at Butterbox Beats last September and now we’re welcoming back the Rusty Pickups for another great Butterbox Beats performance!

With splashes of river boat keys, melodic banjo, rolling bass, and the charm of the acoustic guitar marrying with warm classic story telling and vocals. Built around the engine of Michael Cook and Ayden Robert’s big bodied acoustic and double bass, Lee Fielding’s clawhammer banjo and the meandering keys of Waylon Katz, their music showcases tales of family, murder ballads, and the desperation of lost love, yet still leave a bit of hope in the barrel – just enough to go round and do it all again.

Grab a drink from the bar and something to eat then settle in for fabulous free music in the Butterbox Theatre.
