The Sacred Veil (Eric Whitacre) - Canticum Chamber Choir (St Mary's Kangaroo Point)

20 SEPTEMBER 2026

St Mary's Anglican Church, Kangaroo Point

"The Sacred Veil", scored for choir, piano and cello, was born out of a collaboration between Eric Whitacre and poet/lyricist Charles Anthony Silvestri. Silvestri's wife, Julie, died of ovarian cancer in 2005 at the age of 36, leaving two young children. Texts from Silvestri, Julie, and Whitacre tell a story of courtship, love, loss and the search for solace. Although inspired by a moving and personal friendship, the work shares a very human journey that many people can relate to.

Canticum Chamber Choir with conductor Emily Cox welcomes renowned cellist Louise King, and pianist Cara Tran as we present this intimate and moving work in the warm acoustic of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rosalie, on Friday 18 September, and the heritage listed St Mary's Anglican Church, Kangaroo Point, on Sunday 20 September. Drinks and nibbles will be available after each concert.

Canticum is proud to support the valuable work of Ovarian Cancer Australia, with 10 percent of ticket sales going to their work supporting patients and their families. Further donation opportunities will be available at each concert.
