Marlon Williams' third solo album, My Boy, marks a significant departure from his earlier country-inspired sound, revealing a more playful and dynamic artist. After touring globally and delving into acting, Williams embraced a range of collaborations, from stage performances with Lorde to roles in films and TV series. This diverse experience informed the album, capturing the vitality and complexity of his evolving life.

The pandemic-induced pause allowed Williams to decompress in New Zealand, sparking new themes in his music around self-identity, tribalism, and masculinity. Departing from his usual backing band, he worked with a new cast of musicians to create a vivid and spirited record that explores shifting contexts and new perspectives. "My Boy" deliberately surprises listeners with mood shifts, featuring a blend of influences from New Romantic sounds to disco classics, creating an intentional sonic and emotional whiplash across the eleven tracks.

This event is presented as part of Open Season - a curated program of music and art running from May to July 2024.
