Science Night with Dr Kirsten Banks

28 MARCH 2025

SparkLab, Level 1, Queensland Museum Kurilpa

Slip into SparkLab for an adults-only night of science with Dr Kirsten Banks.

Starry-eyed for science? Join Kirsten as she shares her passion for making the wonders of the universe accessible for everyone.

You’ll usually find her serving up scientific inspiration (with a generous dose of fun) across Australia’s universities, science institutions, festival stages and social media channels.

Kirsten’s joining Science Night to share her unique take on a cosmic cluster of topics. She brings her PhD in astrophysics and proud Wiradjuri heritage to explore questions like - what’s so amazing about the Milky Way galaxy and how has our view of the universe changed?

This special edition of Science Night coincides with World Science Festival Brisbane and includes:

Kirsten will explore the huge 1.8m diameter Science on a Sphere globe suspended from the ceiling of SparkLab, investigating datasets from across the universe and celebrating the rich astronomical traditions of Indigenous cultures, including her ancestors, the Wiradjuri people.

Adults-only access to our interactive STEM space, SparkLab. This hands-on, selfie-friendly area includes 40 interactive exhibits across three zones. Science Night is a rare opportunity to access the whole space with an adults-only audience.

Live science experiments, DJ, drinks and light snacks available at the pop up bar for anyone seeking extra fizz or bubble.
