Paul Davies - Constructed realities

26 AUGUST - 13 SEPTEMBER 2025

Jan Murphy Gallery

Jan Murphy Gallery is pleased to present the latest solo exhibition by Paul Davies, 'Constructed Realities'.

Central to this body of work is a dialogue between two architectural typologies: the utopian, highly glazed aspirations of mid-century modernism and the adaptable construction of the timber Queenslander. Both modernist and Queenslander buildings are known for their integration with the environment, however Davies recontextualises the homes as suspended and introspective structures, with darkened windows that deflect their surroundings and conceal the interiors. Resisting a clear linear narrative, Davies intentionally creates a subtle tension between presence and absence—what is remembered and what is erased.

Davies graduated with a Masters from the University of NSW College of Art and Design (2014). His work is held in prominent public collections across both the U.S. and Australia, including the J. Paul Getty Museum, Palm Springs Art Museum, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Crocker Art Museum, the Laguna Art Museum, HOTA Gold Coast and Museum of Brisbane. His residency experiences span notable institutions, such as the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture (Arizona), Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), Artspace (Sydney) and the NG Creative Residency Provence (France).
