City Sounds: sourpuss, 31 October

Sourpuss is the long-awaited solo project of VOIID/Mouse member Kate McGuire. The project began one Saturday afternoon with the recording of My Therapist Knows All About You alongside Sourpuss bassist Riley Brown and a black cat named Biz (short for Bizkit). “We didn’t really care too much about the quality as long as it sounded cool,” says McGuire. “Each song has meaning to me, but mainly this is just a bit of fun.”
The release was followed by a double single featuring The Mirror and Big Eek in August 2024, and most recently the band’s debut album, Happiness Advent Calendar. Call it lesbian punk, college rock, or whatever you like—Sourpuss is recommended for fans of music that might have featured on the But I’m a Cheerleader soundtrack, as well as Momma, that dog, and Number Girl.
