One of the hidden gems of the Top of Town in the heart of Ipswich city is the art space known as Starr fine art Atelier.
‘Curiouser and curiouser’ is another perfectly apt way to describe this magical gallery, inspired as it is by artist Starr’s love of Alice in Wonderland.
Splashes of hot pink, vivid greens and pastel blues set the scene in a series of paintings and ceramic pieces dotted around the walls and tables amid curated whimsical settings.
It’s a concept Starr had long dreamed of before finding the perfect space upstairs at 126 Brisbane St in a bright light-filled room with a century-old vaulted ceiling soaring overhead.
She opened in 2020 after temporary closure of the galleries her work had previously been shown at, including in Paris and London.
The space doubles as a studio where Starr can work as well as a gallery where visitors can shop on the first Saturday of every month and by appointment.
Work available to buy ranges from scented candles, handpainted ceramic pieces and tiny original paintings through to large scale paintings that have fetched up to $8000 and adorn the homes of collectors around Australia and in Europe.
