From important facilities like bathrooms and lockers, to dogs and showers, everything you need to have a comfortable, safe and enjoyable time at South Bank is below.
To ensure your comfort when visiting South Bank, a range of facilities are available in the Parkland. Read on for more information.
Bathrooms and showers
South Bank has a range of bathroom facilities conveniently located around the precinct. Showers are located in Stanley Street Plaza, and toilets are located at the South Bank Piazza, the Central Cafes, Stanley Street Plaza, Little Stanley Street and River Quay. Visit the South Bank Map page to view these locations.
Parent’s room
There is a Parent's Room located in the Allgas Building in Stanley Street Plaza equipped with a microwave and change table. Baby change tables are also located in various locations in the parklands. Please refer to the South Bank Map to see where they are located.
Locker hire
If you would like to store a small backpack or small day bag during your visit to South Bank, lockers are located in Stanley Street Plaza, opposite Streets Beach (at the top of the stairs next to Southbank Beer Garden). Lockers are available for use during the Parklands’ opening times from 5am to midnight.
There are 20 small lockers that are 22cm x 40cm, costing $5 to hire for four hours.
Payment is by card only for the South Bank lockers. Please be sure to read the instructions of use carefully as no refunds can be provided. Contact the South Bank Visitor Information Centre on 07 3029 1797 or via email: [email protected] for more details.
Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)
If you need to get cash out at South Bank, there is an Allpoint ATM next to Cowch on Grey Street.
Bicycle racks and repair stations
South Bank’s bicycle racks are located at the Clem Jones Promenade, the Central Cafes, and Grey Street (outside the South Bank Cineplex). We also have two bicycle repair stations in the precinct which are free to use and are equipped with lots of nifty maintenance tools including screwdrivers and an air pump to help keep your bike in top shape. They are located on Little Stanley Street (near Garage Espresso), and on the Clem Jones Promenade (outside the River Lookout Cruise Terminal).
Somehow dogs just know if you’re going for a walk without them. It must be some kind of sixth sense activated as soon as you don the exercise gear. And if you’re going walking at South Bank? Well, cue the extra big guilt trip complete with baleful stare and sad dog diary moodiness.
Luckily, South Bank is dog friendly so you can avoid the drama altogether and just bring your poochie pal with you – as long as it’s not on Brisbane City Council’s identified dangerous dog breeds list!
Whether it’s a family outing – any dog will tell you, they’re as much a part of the family as any two-legged counterpart – or just a daily stroll, South Bank and dogs are a match made in canine heaven.
Dog friendly isn’t an excuse to forget all common courtesy though! The precinct is a busy place so there’s a few things to keep in mind if you’re making your way to the Parklands with four-legged friends in tow.
First things first: the basics. No free roaming dogs here – keep your good boy or girl on a lead at all times while in the Parklands to keep everyone safe. South Bank can be a very busy place with pedestrians and cyclists plus people on e-scooters and segways making the rounds.
Doggy poo bags are a must-do for number twos. But if you get stuck (it happens, you’re only human!) then grab a free bag from the dispensers located at entry points into the Parklands, conveniently attached to rubbish bins.
Make sure you steer clear of South Bank’s wet areas (streams, shower areas, pools, beach and fountains) and eating areas, as dogs are not permitted there.
For the best pup-friendly spots to walk, make your way to Clem Jones Promenade, the Arbour or even Rainforest Walk and the Cultural Forecourt for a leisurely stroll – hopefully with a few bonus pats along the way.
“Walkies” are thirsty work but if you don’t carry a doggie drink bowl or bottle, there are three water bowls spread across the Parklands. Attached to water bubblers or water fill stations, these dog bowls are located in the Arbour at the front of the Ship Inn, at Riverside Green and at the Cultural Forecourt opposite the Wheel of Brisbane.
If you’re in need of an assistance dog, they are welcome throughout the Parklands. Please contact the South Bank Visitor Information Centre and our friendly staff will help you with any special arrangements that can be made for your visit. Call on 07 3029 1797 or email them at [email protected].
