Roma Street Parkland

All of Brisbane’s green spaces are accessible by wheeled mobility devices including wheelchairs and strollers and Roma Street Parklands in The City is easy to get to and enjoy. The expansive 16-hectare park is full of manicured gardens, water features and displays to admire with wheelchair-accessible pathways with easy gradients to get around. There is also picnic tables, barbeques and bathrooms that are all accessible by wheelchair.

City Botanic Garden

Also located in The City, these parklands, ponds and playground by Brisbane River are also wheelchair-friendly. For littlies, the inclusive playground includes equipment for all abilities with a wheelchair-accessible swing, roundabout, sandpit and other fun things to do. It is also fun for kids to go around spotting the resident wildlife around the accessible pathways and weekend markets.

South Bank Parklands

With 17 hectares of lush waterfront gardens, a manmade beach with city views, alfresco restaurants and year-round events, South Bank is one of Brisbane’s favourite places to unwind. The facilities and access to the parklands have been designed to accommodate wheelchairs. Standard, specialty pool, and beach wheelchairs can also be hired from the South Bank Visitor Information Centre. The precincts flat design also means many of the cafes and restaurants can be accessed from street level and are suitable for any mobility level.

Brisbane Botanic Gardens

Located at Mt Coot-Tha, the 56-hectare subtropical garden features countless plant species and a range of beautiful displays, including a Japanese garden and a tropical dome. The gardens are accessible for wheel mobility devices including prams and provide wheelchair facilities and accessible adult changing facilities.

Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA)

Feel inspired by a visit to Australia’s largest gallery of modern art, QAGOMA, which has featured engaging exhibitions from all around the world. The gallery has a range of free services and tours for visitors with a disability as well as excellent accessibility access with ramps and lifts throughout. You can also book free wheelchair and mobility scooter hire in advance. Prams and strollers can be used within the Gallery.

Brisbane City Hall

One of Brisbane’s oldest and most architecturally stunning buildings, City Hall can easily be explored via wheelchair. While you’re there, take the lift to the Museum of Brisbane and learn about the city’s history, culture and lifestyle through the eyes of local artists, creatives and storytellers. City Hall’s Mobility Centre also provides free loans of mobility devices for use in The City, South Bank Parklands and the Cultural Precinct.

Brisbane’s lifestyle, heritage and retail precinct, Rivermakers in Morningside offers a raft of eateries, breweries, venues and specialty shops to enjoy. The heritage quarter boasts a wheelchair-accessible River Lawn and other accessible venues.

Eat Street Northshore

The Eat Street Northshore food and drink precinct is a beloved Brisbane weekend dining tradition with more than 70 traders operating out of repurposed shipping containers serving a smorgasbord of cuisines on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. The space includes a portable wheelchair ramp, wide pathways throughout and two accessible facilities near both entrances.

Dining with your feet dangling 17 meters in the air may sound daunting, but this unique dining experience is available to all with a ‘first of its kind’ accessible entrance. A specialised chair has been designed using aircraft-grade aluminium to lift people if all abilities to enjoy a three-course brunch or dinner with unbeatable views.

West Village

Located in West End, West Village has a curated selection of gourmet food, international restaurants, gift shops and residential apartments in the one convenient spot. The entire area in the heritage hub is wheelchair and mobility device friendly with lifts, ramps and travelators throughout the precinct.

Howard Smith Wharves

The expansive reclaimed historic wharves beneath the Story Bridge in The City is one of Brisbane’s favourite spots to meet with an onsite brewery, restaurants, bars, a 5-star hotel and plenty of space with river views at every vantage point. The wide shared pathway makes it easy to get around the open space and parkland with two lifts for street access above. 

Brisbane City

If you are looking for a dining experience in Brisbane City that is ground level or accessible via lifts and ramps, you aren’t short for options. Whether you prefer riverside dining, or something more central to Queen Street Mall, many places such as Babylon, Settimo, Vintaged Bar + Grill and Lennons Restaurant & Bar are all accessible by wheelchair and other mobility assistants.

Several microbreweries and wineries in Brisbane are wheelchair and mobility device accessible, offering inclusive spaces for all. Green Beacon Brewing Co. in Teneriffe offers easy wheelchair access with ramps and wide spaces for navigation. Over at Kangaroo Point, Sea Legs Brewing Co. is another accessible brewery, boasting a relaxed riverside atmosphere with accessible bathrooms and an open layout. Ballistic Beer Co. in Salisbury also caters to wheelchair users with a wide layout and accessible amenities. For those looking to enjoy Brisbane’s rooftop scene, Valley Hops Brewing in Fortitude Valley is a great option, with elevator access and seating areas designed for ease of movement. For wine lovers, Sirromet Winery in Mount Cotton offers guided accessible tours and ensures smooth access throughout the venue, including tasting areas and restaurants.

Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk

Set over 12 hectares of rainforest, has 300 meters of high steel walkways that looks over the rainforest canopy and creek 30 meters below. Enjoy the sounds of running water, birds chirping and the breeze making its way through the flora and fauna as you travel through the green escape.

O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat

Experience tranquillity, natural landscapes and luxurious relaxation as O’Reilly’s creates an accessible experience for everyone, there are two dedicated wheelchair friendly rooms that captures incredible view of the heritage-listed Lamington National Park surrounds as well as accessible facilities at the café. The Tree Top Walk and Python Rock Track also be experienced by anyone in a wheelchair.

Summer Land Camels

The amazing opportunity to experience camels has been made accessible to all, at Summer Land Camels. The experienced staff ensure that all visitors have the opportunity to experience intimate animal encounters and well as participating in the farm tours and enjoying the cosy café.

Wheel of Brisbane

Almost 60m high, the Wheel of Brisbane soars above South Bank, offering visitors sweeping views across the city and river. This sky-high attraction is also wheelchair-friendly with two gondolas fitted for access and a ramp provided for ease of boarding plus accessible bathroom facilities. All staff are well trained in assisting those in a wheelchair be on and off-boarded from the gondolas. While Prams and strollers cannot be taken on board the Wheel of Brisbane, there is a pram parking area for while you’re onboard the Wheel.

Tangalooma Island Resort

On Moreton Island/Mulgumpin, one of the world’s largest sand islands, Tangalooma Island Resort is a popular spot for those looking for white sand, turquoise water and playful wild dolphins. Tangalooma Island Resort is wheelchair-friendly and all facilities, including the ferry, can accommodate mobility devices with accessible bathrooms and ramps.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Embrace the wildlife in Brisbane’s west at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary which, as the name suggests, provides a haven for Australian wildlife such as koalas, wombats, kangaroos and bird life.
