Spectacle Garden Blooms in Spring

Found flowering in different spots in the Spectacle Garden in colour variations is Alstroemeria (pictured above). Known as Peruvian Lily, gorgeous to look at but they have no fragrance!

Perfect for pollinators, pale pink Pentas delight butterflies and bees. The genus is from tropical southern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

Next to the Pentas, bed companions Salvia are from the herbaceous sage family. Also, a big hit with pollinators, Salvias descend from every continent apart from Australia and Antarctica!

Scaevola or fan flower is an Australian plant growing over a sandstone sculpture in the Spectacle Garden. This unusual flower has petals only appearing on one side, its name coming from a Latin word meaning left-handed.

Hydrangea in the Spectacle Garden, Roma Street Parkland

Discover big bushes of Hydrangea and their pretty pastels. What look like petals are sepals, which are leaves protecting the actual flower buds.

A variety of colours of the genus Hippeastrum have popped up around the pond. Derived from Ancient Greek, Hippeastrum means a “knight’s star”,

The Spectacle Garden at Roma Street Parkland is open from dawn until dusk daily and is free to enter. Dogs are not permitted in this area of the parkland. If you bring your pup along on your visit, please view the garden from a walkway above.
