Embark on a magical quest through Brisbane this Christmas to find the fairies. Where might you find them? If you follow the fairy pixy dust you may just stumble across their tiny doors that can be found all over Brisbane. 12 doors await to be discovered by some keen-eyed fairy spotters, but if you’re struggling, here are a few clues.
For those wanting to see all of the tiny doors, we would suggest starting your quest in Roma Street Parkland. Head toward the Celebration Lawn where you will see the Banyan Tree Grove...that’s where you want to be. Whilst you’re here, take your time to wander through the beautiful and well looked after gardens before grabbing some breakfast and a coffee from The Garden Room.
From here, it is about a 15-to-20-minute walk over to Post Office Square where you will find a set of tiny doors awaiting to be found by the grass. To grab a lunchtime feed nearby, you can find classic American food at Red Hook on Gresham Lane.
Fairies love Christmas too, so head towards the big Christmas tree found in King George Square. Unfortunately, fairies cannot set their doors right by the Christmas tree, so they have to make friends with the horse nearby. That is, the perfect spot to see the Lighting of the Christmas Tree on 29 of November and the City Hall Lights from 6 December play throughout the month of December.
Skip over the road from King George Square to Queen Street Mall and find a total of five more doors! From the outside of Wintergarden, to one near a bookstore, you’ll also find one where the water is flowing (water fountain). Then make your way up Queen Street Mall to find some sneaky doors hidden inside Uptown on level one and QueensPlaza on the lower ground. Whilst you’re here, check out Uptown’s Christmas themed windows and why not take the time to do a little Christmas gift shopping?
If you keep walking down Queen Street Mall, you will eventually find Burnett Lane, a hidden laneway that is home to some of Brisbane City’s best food venues, but that's not all! Burnett Lane is also home to two tiny secrets, so keep your eyes peeled as one vibrant red and the other will be sparkling all day and night.
To continue your journey finding the fairies, make your way to Brisbane City’s newest precinct, Queens Wharf where a special fairy has set up residence right by the eight-meter high, golden tower of stars. While you are here, take the opportunity to wander through the new precinct and experience the Sky Deck on level 23.
Walk along the water and catch the river breeze as you make your way to the City Botanic Gardens, a home to many mystical creatures. Found right where the fairy spotters will want to play, the Baldwin Lawn Playground is home to yet another magical door. Take your time wandering through the gardens and enjoying the playground and grab a mid-afternoon pick me up at The Gardens Club.
Stay tuned for the final 2 Tiny Door locations to be revealed very soon! A spoiler, one will be in South Bank.
Congratulations, you have now found all the tiny doors, and it is now time to create your own! Drop by the Queen Street Mall Stage to create your very own tiny door so that the fairies can make a home at your house this Christmas. This is the perfect way to end a big day's fairy searching adventure and to take home a festive momento.
