Mt Barney Wilderness Camping

Waterfall Creek Road, Maroon Queensland 4310

Mt Barney Retreat is a true wilderness retreat is set high-up in the mountains of the World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia region. They are surrounded by rainforest, ancient Antarctic beech forests, natural bush and 22,000 hectares of Mt Barney National Park. Magnificent views, a private and tranquil location - it doesn't get any better than this! They are located an easy two hour drive from Brisbane. Escape to nature, as nature is meant to be.

Three cabins can accommodate up to eight persons each. They are basic but comfortable: cool in the summer and by Aussie standards a bit cold in the winter. The cabins get good shade in the afternoon and louver windows along both sides allow you to moderate air flow throughout the cabin to pick up cool summer breezes.

Out of the 130 hectares of their forested property, their facilities are contained in two hectares of open space. They provide a fully functional kitchen, bush hall, covered camp fire, toilets and hot showers.

They have a commitment to restrict the number of sites to a sustainable number. It means you will always experience the quiet and peaceful surrounds of the forest and the mountains.

Group/Family Cabin

The three cabins can easily accommodate up to eight persons. All cabins have a least one double bed bunk with the Montserrat cabin having three. Please make sure you bring your sleeping gear. It is dormitory style accommodation with single and double bunk beds and a changing room. A balcony overlooks either the retreat, the wildlife dam or down to Mt Barney.
