Seclusion and privacy beside the pristine rapid-filled headwaters of Christmas Creek. Wongari is an intimate romantic retreat bordering World Heritage Lamington National Park and only 90 minutes from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. If lazing on a generous deck amid rainforest and wildlife, or reading a book or watching the birds, maybe swimming in the private rapid-filled rock pools of the creek or roasting marshmallows on a fire under the stars is how you see yourself relaxing and unwinding, then Wongari Eco Retreat fits the description.
For the more adventurous, there's plenty of opportunity to explore. Wongari sits nestled in a spectacular gorge setting, with gentle walks on their property along Waterfall Creek and Christmas Creek and also into Lamington National Park's wilderness section. The renowned Stinson Wreck and Westray's Grave walks are easily accessed and marked, but not formed.
Wongari's two cabins each have their own access gate and are settled in their own private six acres of forest surrounds. With 200 metres of creek frontage - Christmas Creek, and Waterfall Creek - you'll be guaranteed not to be disturbed. The holiday cottages are fully self-contained with a wood fire and oven, rainforest deck, king-sized bed and rainforest shower.
Wongari is also proudly pet friendly. What's a Relax without your best friends beside you.
Bimbul is the second of the two cabins. Bimbul was built with the grove of Hoop Pines it nestles amongst firmly in their view. Hence its name. Open plan and energetic it sits amongst a canopy of trees, above the creek and below the majestic Buchanans Fort. It's location is enough but two fireplaces, a daybed, king size bed, a generous self-contained kitchen, natural toiletries and power derived from their very own hydro-electric turbine, make it a uniquely sustainable and comfortable wilderness getaway.
Serenity, their first cabin, can claim its name as its own after five years of operation.
Christmas Creeks is only 10 metres away and lulls you into a tranquil state as it runs over rocks. Trees tower over the cabin and provide highways for animals. Wallabies, echidnas and long-nosed bandicoots are just some of the special creatures you may see on your stay.
The shower has two glass walls and views a tropical garden under lights. Nestled comfortably into its own rainforest it is so private and secluded you will see no one for the entire time you relax and unwind at this little cottage hideaway.
Serenity is open plan and fully self-contained with a complete kitchen, barbecue, wood-fired bakers oven, microwave and outdoor fire. All firewood provided. The cottage has a king size bed that can become two single kings. All linen is provided and are of high quality.
