Toy Shaw’s signature ‘folktronic’ sound is a unique blend of banjo and bedroom pop. Her alt-pop textures, folk melodies, and country lyricism come together in something like an Oklou remix of Loretta Lynn.
Inspired by her mother’s love of The Chicks, Toy developed an early passion for country music, gravitating towards pioneering songstresses like Maybelle Carter, Neko Case, and Kitty Wells. Raised in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and now based in Naarm, her music has garnered praise from Triple J, FBi, PBSFM, Triple R, and RNZ.
